About ChiMolly

Our beginnings, our interest in Chinese culture, and the objects that bring ChiMolly Art into the home.

A group of porcelain objects selected by ChiMolly

Our beginnings

ChiMolly began with Zhuofeng Weng and his university friends developing a project together in the United States. Porcelain accessories were their first step. Their interest in Chinese culture informed the designs and the way they approached these objects.

That attention to objects and their details continues through ChiMolly Art, the part of ChiMolly devoted to porcelain for the home.

Porcelain for the home

ChiMolly Art brings together porcelain paintings, vases, jars, cups and teaware. A painting gives a wall its focus; a vessel finds its place on a shelf; a cup belongs close at hand. These different forms connect through an interest in Chinese porcelain and its place in everyday surroundings.

The selection includes blue and white alongside other colours and approaches to decoration. We look at each object as a whole, from its outline to the painted and glazed surface.

Looking closely

Form, surface and setting guide our attention. We consider the proportions of a vessel, the way a painting follows a curve, and the space an object needs around it. A turn of the rim, a painted flower or a change in reflected light can reward a closer look.

Our journal explores the materials, places and histories around porcelain. What we look for explains the considerations behind the selection.
